Gourmand Note
Vanilla
The note that started a thousand obsessions.
What is it?
Vanilla is the cured seed pod of an orchid, and one of the most labour-intensive crops in the world.
Where it comes from
Primarily Madagascar, Tahiti, Mexico, Uganda and Indonesia.
What it smells like
Creamy, sweet, slightly boozy, a little smoky, with a powdery softness underneath.
In perfume
Vanilla shape-shifts. Next to tonka it turns almondy and powdery; next to rum or bourbon it goes boozy; next to woods it dries out and becomes almost salty.
